Green Tourism Business Scheme

The Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) is the only national sustainable tourism certification program in the UK endorsed by VisitEngland, VisitScotland and VisitWales and has been validated by the International Centre for Responsible Tourism since 2008.

Operated by a not-for-profit organisation, Green Business, there are over 2,300 GTBS members throughout the UK and Ireland.  Businesses are graded by qualified environmental assessors and can benefit from significant marketing advantage and reduced running costs of up to 20%.

For Green Tourism Week 2012, the GTBS' environmental awareness campaign aiming to link sustainability and profitability, Greentraveller launched its Guide to the North Pennines AONB. Richard Hammond was one of the judges of the GTBS Goldstar Awards, and Greentraveller has sponsored the Visitor Attractions category.

For Green Tourism Week, 2011 (6–13 June), greentraveller's founder Richard Hammond help chose from a short list of 22 a total of ten GoldStar award-winners. More than half of these properties are featured on greentraveller. For more information, visit our blog post: Greentraveller gets involved in Green Tourism Week.
