Introducing a new video series where I ask leading lights in the tourism industry to explain in less than 60 seconds the one thing they'd change to address tourism's impact on the climate and nature emergencies.
First up is Al Judge, founder of AliKats Mountain Holidays (and President of Montagne Verte - an environmental non-profit organisations based), a boutique chalet company based in Morzine-Avoriaz, who has recently announced a €1 million climate action plan. I caught up with Al this week in Morzine and asked him "What is the one thing you'd change?", he said:
"The one thing I would change about people coming on ski holidays is how they get here.
"Between 55 and 75% of the carbon emissions associated with the ski holiday, or as a result of flying to from Morzine. So if we can get more people on the trip to the train, it would make a massive difference to the emissions associated with the ski holiday.
"We are offering very generous discounts, up to 20% for anyone who comes by train. We're also working with local businesses through our charity, Montagne Verte, to offer discounts to anyone who makes that choice to come on train so people can get discounts on accommodation, restaurants, bars, ski hire.
"And then finally, we are also looking at structural issues where we're working with an industry group to make train travel more accessible and overcome some of the hurdles to make it easier for people to come and train."
🙏 Al
This post is part of a series of interviews I'm filming with prominent people in the travel and tourism industry where I ask them to reply in 60 seconds, "What's the one think you'd change in travel, given the climate and nature emergencies?"

Richard Hammond travelled out to Morzine by overnight Flixbus from London Victoria to Geneva via Paris, then train to Cluses (the nearest railway station to Morzine), then back by train from Geneva to Paris then Eurostar to London St Pancras.
