After his fireside chat with Lyn Hughes on stage at the brilliant Adventure Travel Networking (ATN) conference last week, I grabbed 60 seconds with entrepreneur, leader and philanthropist Bruce Poon Tip OC, founder of G Adventures, to ask him: "What is the one thing you'd change in travel given the climate and nature emergencies?"

This is what he said:

"If there was one thing I could change about travel, it would be that people understand the great privilege we have to travel. With the world population, there's a small group of people that get the opportunity to say, 'I'll get to go on vacation', or they need to go on vacation. With that decision and that privilege comes great responsibility.

"And I think that if more people understand that travel is a privilege and not your right, and when you travel, you have no right to travel. It's a great privilege that we have, and with that great privilege comes great responsibility and making sure that everyone benefits from your decision to go on holidays. And as an industry and as a traveller, we should lean into the transformative ability to travel has to not just transform your life as the traveller, which we've focused on for years, but also transform local communities and people."

🙏 Bruce

This post is part of a series of interviews I'm filming with prominent people in the travel and tourism industry where I ask them to reply in 60 seconds, "What's the one think you'd change in travel, given the climate and nature emergencies?"
