How does Wild Northumbrian Tipi and Yurt Camp minimise its impact on the environment and contribute to a sense of place?

The yurts and tipis are made as local as possible and are heated with fire wood from off cuts from a local furniture maker. The lighting is only local organic candles, there is no electricity. All interiors are from recycled and locally sourced materials. The shower facilities are solar, air source powered and heated. There are flow restrictors on the shower head and taps. They provide recycling areas and a compost area for guests to use. Any on site products are handmade and sourced locally.

Local products are used as much as provided as much as possible including local farm produce, fresh free range eggs and local chocolate. The kitchen garden is progressing with the aim that guests will be able to harvest from it for their cooking on site. They have facilities for bikes and provide guided day and night bike trails as well as information on bike routes. To discourage unnecessary use of cars, they provide a shopping service for basics. The onsite courses are themed towards a conscious appreciation and harmony with the outdoors and wildlife of the Upper North Tyne Valley Northumberland National Park.

Review by Anita Pati

"Family and dog-friendly, this back-to-nature glampsite is a touch of luxury without the frilly bits but with lots of earthy ones. Bang in the middle of unspoilt rural Northumberland, there are loads of activities at your fingertips, rugged walks at your feet and stars twinkling above your bed."
