Responsible Tourism Awards

Posted by Richard Hammond at 05:36 on Thursday 09 November 2006

Spent yesterday at World Travel Market for the Responsible Tourism Awards... tons of people turned up this year for the presentation, I reckon about 300 people were there. The overall winner was shared between the Aussie adventure travel company Intrepid Travel and the Ol Malo Trust in Kenya. And I met Mark Smith, the 'Man in Seat Sixty-One' - he does exist! If you don't know his website check it out - seat61.com- it's the best on the net for advice on train travel to the continent. I wrote about all the winners in The Times.

Also, the Responsible Tourism Awards website has a full list of winners and photos.

Also on the awards front...the Guardian ran its first Ethical Travel Award last month. Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa won it. See Andy Pietrasik's article on township tourism
