Mendip Hills Video
As part of our celebration of the most beautiful protected areas in the UK, we have produced a video promoting the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Somerset (just south of Bristol), highlighting the stunning scenery, as well as fantastic places to stay, eat and things to see and do in this glorious part of England.
The video focuses on the local visitor experience, featuring green places to stay, such as Gorge View Cottage in Cheddar and Burcott Mill – a friendly B&B and working watermill near Wookey – as well as places where you can pick up fantastic local produce, from farm shops and local food producers, such as Thatchers Cider and Cheddar cheese, to characterful pubs, like the The Lamb in the medieval square of Axbridge, and lovely tearooms dotted around the region. The video also features lots of family-friendly things to do in the area, from popular visitor attractions like Cheddar Gorge and Chew Valley Lake, to outdoor activities, such as walking, cycling and caving.
The video is the latest addition to our online destination platform for the Mendip Hills, which features over 40 recommendations for where to stay, eat and what to see and do in the area. It includes an interactive map of the featured businesses and in-depth information on how visitors can reduce their environmental impact by travelling to and around the area by public transport and on foot or by bike.
The video and guide are to designed to encourage visitors how to make the most of the area in a way that has a low impact on the environment and a positive impact on the region’s economy, local communities and natural landscape.
Sarah Jackson, Mendip Hills AONB Manager 1997-2016, said “The Greentraveller video has added an extra dimension to the online guide highlighting some of the fantastic scenery, local produce and activities the area has to offer. It puts us firmly on the map as a great place of natural beauty to visit on the doorstep of Bristol and Weston-super-Mare.”
Florence Fortnam, Head of Content, Greentraveller, said: “The Mendip Hills AONB is an incredibly varied landscape, one of dramatic scenes and wild plains. Visitors flock in their droves to Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole Caves every year, but, magnificent though these visitor attractions are, the AONB has so much more to reward the visitor who chooses to stay in the area a little longer; culture vultures, nature lovers and foodies will all find plenty to keep them happy here.
“We are delighted to produce this video as this medium is a powerful way inspiring residents and visitors to seek out the range of sustainable experiences in this glorious part of England.”
