UK - North Wales - Road Cycling Weekend

Some of Britain’s finest and toughest road riding is secretly tucked away in the deserted hills of the north east of Wales.

Based in a charming mountain village we spend the weekend riding through dramatic valleys, around stunning lakes and tackling some of the country’s most challenging climbs - including the Bwylch y Groes, made famous as the most feared climb in the Milk Race.

This is the ideal weekend for testing the water prior to joining one of our bigger trips or simply as a great getaway.

With a minimum of two Skedaddle guides, themselves enthusiastic cyclists, leading the way you can forget about finding your own way and concentrate on the fantastic riding offered by our hand picked routes.

Why not take advantage of the Skedaddle free train station pick-up service from Gobowen station to avoid those Friday night traffic jams?

Each trip is kept specifically small; between six and fifteen riders and is fully guided by at least two guides enabling us to cater for different fitness and experience levels in the group and has the luxury of a support driver too. By all means bring your own bike along or if you haven’t got one, you can hire a top quality Giant road bike from us.

Detailed Itinerary:
Day 1
Upon your arrival in Llanrhaedr-ym-Mochnant you will be shown your room and then you can join us at either the accommodation or a local pub, where over a drink and something to eat an informal talk will be given about the events of the weekend. We use a selection of quality B&B's and small hotels which provide us with a great base for our weekend and a warm welcome to return to after a day in the saddle. Tonight is a good opportunity to get to know our guides who represent Saddle Skedaddle's friendly and enthusiastic attitude to cycling.

Day 2
Leaving the sleepy village of Llanrhaedr-ym-Mochnant behind we climb high in to the Berwyn Mountains, some of the
least visited and most dramatic in all of wales. The scenery and the riding are very dramatic and we ride high over the hills and down towards Bala Lake.

Turning back towards home we ride through the stunning Hirnant Valley before descending for lunch on the tranquil shores of Lake Vyrnwy. Our lunches are commonly buffet style with a selection of local produce put together by our guides (often their pride and joy!). Vegetarian and other dietary requirements can easily be catered for.

From here we make a rolling forest lined ride back to base, and spend the evening in a traditional Welsh pub, where you may even be asked to join in with the singing around the piano!

Day 3
Heading east from the village we spend a superb day riding through remote villges and along high mountain roads before returning via the Tranuilk Ceiriog Valley, a truly memorable ride in this secret cycling haven.

Throughout the weekend the trusty Skedaddle support vehicle is never too far away meaning that you only need to carry a few bits and pieces on your bike. The support vehicle will also meet us throughout the day to keep us topped up with snacks and hot and cold drinks to keep the pedals turning.

Day 4
Riding the deserted valley roads we make out way towards Lake Vyrnwy, where we ride half way around this great lake before turning back towards the hills. Our ride takes us to the summit of the Bwylch y Groes, perhaps the most famed and picturesque pass in Wales. From here we descend to the shores of Bala Lake before heading back over the heather-clad and rolling high Berwyns to descend back to base for a farewell pint at the local.

We provide everything except personal equipment, clothing and a bike (although you can hire a bike if required). Apart from your emergency tool kit and spare inner tube you will not be required to take any extra equipment. Your bike should be well maintained / serviced.
