Event: 'Outstanding Week' in Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty

Following on from the success of last year's Outstanding Week, the UK’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs) will again be joining forces later this month to provide an action-packed 9-day programme of events to help people enjoy these specially protected areas.

Photo: Diana Jarvis/GreentravellerThe events this year will take place between Saturday 17th and Sunday 25th September across the UK's AONBs and will include a huge range of events, from photography workshops, foraging walks, country shows, dark sky discovery nights and walking festivals, to archaeology walks, wood fairs, food and drink festivals, wildlife walks, and coastal and marine days. There will be plenty of family-friendly activities too, such as kite flying in the Forest of Bowland, seashore safaris in Devon and a Roald Dahl Day celebrations for little bookworms.  

Over 80 events are being organised throughout the UK. Here's a taste of just some of the fantastic events taking place this year:

  • 17 September: Mendip Hills, Mendip Rocks! Family Fun at Frome Museum
  • 17 September: Kent Downs, Wildlife of the Walls
  • 17-18 September: Arnside & Silverdale, Digital Photography Workshop
  • 17-21 September: Dorset, Wayfaring: Extraordinary Events in Extraordinary Places
  • 18 September: Forest of Bowland, Kite Flying in the Forest
  • 18 September: Isle of Wight, West Wight Triathlon
  • 18 September: Northumberland Coast, Geology Walks
  • 23 September: Kent Downs, Water for Wildlife
  • 24 September: Llyn, Nant Gwrtheyrn Guided Walk
  • 24-25 September: Suffolk Coast & Heaths, Aldburgh Food & Drink Festival
  • 25 September: Clwydian Range & Dee Valley, Walks with the AONB Officer
  • All week: East Devon, Walking Festival (including foraging, wildlife and history walks)
