Canoeing and kayaking holidays are one of the fastest growing sports. Away from the hum of pleasure boats, paddling under your own steam, you can reach some of the most unspoilt places. Sea kayaking, in particular, enables you to get to remote coves, beaches and islands that you wouldn’t otherwise be able to reach.

Here's our pick of canoeing and kayaking trips on offer in 2011 in Scotland, France, Sardinia, Sweden and Norway.

Happy Paddling!

Paddling along in your little canoe, a gentle sense of adventure fills the air. As dawn breaks, you can almost believe that you're the first to travel along the stretch of water. And as your oar calmly cuts through the clear water, you catch something on the river bank scuffling away out of sight - a glimpse of nature in all its early morning glory.

Drift quietly along the Dordogne river and suddenly a spectacular chateaux comes into view. Usually these sort of things come announced but this holiday has so many wondrous sights that it’s easy, understandable even, for views that would be the a destination in other breaks to pass by peacefully: enjoyed, remembered and entirely undemanding. Perfect for the absolute beginner and excellent for families this is an excellent holiday filled with diversions, scenery and character. So drift along and take advantage of your kids being distracted by world-famous prehistoric sites to give them a healthy splash. It builds character.

Price: From £1098 tour only
Duration: 9 days
Departures: Every two days from 23 May to 24 Sep
