Why we've chosen Wrostler's Barn:

Wrostler’s Barn is a beautiful off-grid camping barn in secluded woodland, close to Coniston Water on the quieter east side of the Lake. A fantastic eco-holiday that’s remote and secluded but just a one minute walk through the woods to the lake, car park and road. Wrostler's Barn is in an SSSI and as such we are always conscious of everything we do being the best for the environment. We are engaged with conservation farming with the National Trust and RSPB and work with ideas of ecoagriculture in our farming practice.

Eco credentials:

How do you reduce your draw on energy:
The barn is off-grid. There is a small solar panel which feeds LED bulbs inside the barn. Water is direct from the stream and a wood burning stove keeps the place cosy. There are two composts toilets and the Lake provides an excellent bath!

How you minimise the amount of waste you send to landfill:
We ask guests to use the compost bin provided and we have all our waste sent to a recycling plant for processing. We only use environmentally friendly products onsite.

How you reduce your consumption of water:
As the toilets don't use water and there's no shower, we only use a minimum amount of water for cooking and cleaning.

How much of the food your serve is sourced locally (where possible):
As we are a farm that keeps sheep, cows and pigs, we offer our guests the option of buying meat directly from us.

Do you actively encourage guests to arrive on foot, by bike and by public transport?:
As the barn is so remote, we would not expect anyone to arrive on foot or bike and unfortunately there is no public transport to the barn.
