Why we've chosen Viña y Rosales

A two-century-old Andalucian mansion in the little village of Mairena has been beautifully restored to create the guesthouse Viña y Rosales (‘vines and roses’, named for the profuse flora in the garden), unusual among the whitewashed Alpujarran villages in having a pitched roof rather than the typical flat roof coated with launa (grey mica clay). Four spacious guestrooms – two en suite, and two in an annexe that can be used as a self-catering apartment – are enclosed within its thick stone walls that keep the house cool in summer. Several terraces offer glorious spots to relax among the flowers, and the many trails spidering from Mairena tempt hikers, mountain-bikers and horse-riders – longer multi-day treks can be arranged.
