Why we've chosen Treworgey Cottages

The reasons for this accommodation being awarded Gold by the GTBS are manifold, including a 6kw wind turbine, glass solar tubes to heat the pool, and a ground source heat pump to provide the hot water and underfloor heating for the two cottages. Building materials for all projects are sourced as locally as possible, including Pentilly oak and Delabole slate. All loft spaces have been fully insulated, with many of the appliances rated A or higher. There are bins for the recycling of glass, paper and plastics, plus all green waste is composted. Water is sourced from the site's own spring, as well as a private bore hole (providing water that is good enough to bottle), plus there are water savers in the cisterns, flow restrictors in shower heads and rainwater is collected for use in the garden. Many of the cleaning products used are environmentally friendly.

There's a local produce stall, which is stocked by a local organic farm and offer everything from homemade soups to home-grown sausages and home-grown organic veg. The hosts also cook meals for guests if requested, while the eggs from the resident chickens and ducks can be collected. There is plenty of info on offer about how to get to and around the accommodation without driving. Sat at the head of the Looe Valley with biews to the river below, Treworgey offers access to the market town of Liskeard, the coves and resorts of the southern Cornish coast, and Bormin Moor to the northwest.
