Why we've chosen Sierra y Mar

Set amid a jumble of gardens and terraces are the nine en-suite bedrooms of this wonderful guesthouse, run for many years by a Danish-Italian couple with a love of walking – no wonder: with both the GR7 and GR142 long-distance trails running past, and countless more paths and mule tracks to explore, this is paradise for hikers. There’s a guest kitchen and library, and most bedrooms – furnished in simple, rustic style with Alpujarran woven bedspreads – have their own terraces. The artsy hamlet of Ferreirola, one of the seven comprising La Taha district, boasts a painter, a guitar maker and a flamenco workshop, as well as a tearoom-bar, and weavers and potters can be visited nearby.

You can reach Granada by either train or bus (trains are more expensive and take around the same length of time).
