Why we've chosen The Old Vicarage:

The Old Vicarage Dolfor sits in the Montgomeryshire hills above Newtown in the County of Powys, Mid Wales, close to the Shropshire border. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty, an ideal stopover for travellers heading North, South and to the Welsh coast and for those who want to relax and unwind and explore the magic of the region. Everyone knows of the Brecon and Snowdonia National Parks but Mid Wales' Cambrian Mountains are arguably an even more beautiful unspoilt wilderness. An area of lakes, forests, mountains, myths and legends, rich in historic castles (Powis castle being the most famous), highlighting the area’s history of conflict, defending against Roman, Saxon, Norman and English invaders.

There are stunning panoramic views from the Old Vicarage which stretch for miles. There are cosy log fires with menus utilising the brilliant local, organic, seasonal produce. A vegetable garden with polytunnel supplies salads, herbs and vegetables with free-range hens contributing their lovely golden yoked eggs, so crucial for that extra special breakfast. The Old Vicarage Dolfor makes an excellent choice for a cycling or walking holiday and there are some terrific special deals available.

The Old Vicarage is one of three hotels hosting Road Trips for Welsh Road Trips.

How does The Old Vicarage Dolfor minimise its impact on the environment and contribute to a sense of place?
The Old Vicarage Dolfor has implemented a wide range of green measures, for which they’ve been awarded with Gold from the GTBS. To reduce its draw on natural resources, all appliances are A rated and all light bulbs are low energy. The roof is well insulated and windows are gradually being replaced with A-rated ones. Everything is recycled where possible and all food waste is composted, both raw and cooked. To reduce water consumption, water butts collect rainwater, all toilets are dual flush and eco cleaning products are used. Home-grown produce and hens are available onsite, and seasonal local organic produce is actively sourced. To encourage minimal impact on the surrounding landscapes and biodiversity from transport, a 10% room rate discount is offered to those whom arrive car-free.

"Tim and Helen have done that rare thing of combining (very successfully) a five-star experience with the relaxed setting and intimate feel of a small B&B; it is completely set up for those wishing to give the car a break on holiday."
