Why we've chosen Foxtwood Cottages:

Jump on a train to Stoke-on-Trent and from there take a bus to Kingsley which is about 1 mile away from Foxtwood Cottages, by prior arrangement you can be collected from the bus stop.  Once in the Churnet Valley, part of the beautiful Staffordshire Peak District, you will find the Cottages nestled in this luscious area, just waiting to be explored. With a labyrinth of footpaths you can criss-cross the valley through traditional meadows and woodlands, enjoy a pub lunch or have afternoon tea in some stunning locations.  There is a  wealth of things on offer, from the local heritage steam railway, outdoor activities, museums and numerous visitor attractions, but best of all is the pure natural beauty of the area.

Foxtwood Cottages have achieved the Staffordshire Environmental Quality Mark.  This accolade is reflected in the fully insulated building while the cottages heated by underfloor hot water, which is about 25% more efficient than radiators. Some of the domestic hot water is heated by solar panels. All appliances are at least A rated. All cottages also have either an open fire or a log burning stove, for which wood is supplied from the property grounds.  Nearly all of the owners’ personal waste is recycled and recycling bags and compost bins are provided in the cottages. The Moorlands council offers a very comprehensive recycling collection. Toiletries are provided in refillable bulk dispensers.

Water is metered and supplied from the on-site own spring, which is treated by being passed through a UV light sterilizer, so it is chemical-free. They have dual flush cisterns, and use some environmentally friendly cleaning products. For meals and food shopping, the owners provide guests with information on local produce, including the livestock market. The grounds are part of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme, so it is farmed in a traditional, very low intensity way, fertilizers are not used and hay making is left until flowers, including three different native orchid species, have set seed.

"If you want to enjoy typically English countryside with more walks than you can imagine leaving from your front door and comfy accommodation for all the family including Fido, this is the spot for you.  You couldn’t ask for nicer, more enthusiastic hosts and everyone is welcome (just as long as they don’t chase the chickens in to the canal)."
