Why we've chosen Cwmbiga Farm, nr Llanidloes, Wales

Self Catering [see below for B&B]
The only Green Tourism Business Scheme "Goldstar" Winners in Wales!

Our comfortable, cosy, yet low impact, 4 star, cottages are set in 60 acres comprising farmland, wetlands, mixed broadleaf woodlands and a large wildlife pond. They are located in their own valley in the Hafren Forest and the Cambrian Mountains: near Llanidloes in beautiful mid Wales.

The cottages provide a great base for family activity holidays or for breaks from the hustle and bustle of modern life. The cottages have under floor heating (powered by a wood boiler and solar panels) and a cosy wood-burning stove. Facilities include washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, electric hob and oven, fridge freezer, DVD and CD player, TV with freesat, a picnic bench and BBQ.

Each cottage sleeps up to 8 in 2 double rooms, 1 twin en-suite room and a bunk bedroom. Bed linen (excluding towels) is provided, as is fuel for the wood burner. One small pet is welcome (as long as it is kept on a lead at all times) per cottage for a small additional charge. We have unfenced ponds, streams and river, so young children must be supervised. Non smokers only please.

The cottages are available for short breaks and we offer discounts to small parties (4 or less).

Bed & Breakfast - in our refurbished Grade II listed farmhouse
We have three cosy and comfortable rooms available in the farmhouse named ‘Varga’, ‘Ystwyth’ and ‘Sabrina’ after the three nymphs that reputedly met nearby. Varga and Ystwyth are double rooms and Sabrina is a twin. All are en suite. Each room features exposed beams or original stonework as well as photographs of beauty spots and wildlife local to Cwmbiga and locally made traditional quilts.

We serve both breakfast and evening meals in our lovely oak framed conservatory from which you can oversee the valley of the river Biga and watch the birds feed at the numerous feeders. Guests are also welcome to relax in the comfortable sofas in the conservatory.

If there are more than 6 persons in your party, we can accommodate further B&B guests in twin and double rooms in our holiday cottages. If we use one or more of these rooms as an annexe, everyone in the party can still eat, socialise and relax in the spacious conservatory attached to the farmhouse.

All meals are freshly cooked on the premises using local ingredients where possible. We can happily cater for vegetarians and coeliacs.

Luggage transfer available for walkers / cyclists.

Why is this a greener holiday?

To truly minimise the environmental impact, guests are encouraged to arrive by public transport: the nearest train station is Caersws and the owners are happy to collect guests from the stations by prior arrangement.

Onsite the owners have taken a number of green measures to reduce the environmental impact of their tourism business. The space and water heating is provided by a 50kW log burning boiler, fuelled by logs from onsite trees and those harvested from the Hafren Forest. Heat is also provided by 40 square metres of solar thermal panels, one of the biggest privately owned arrays in Wales. The electricity is supplied from renewable resources, by Good Energy. The cottages have under floor heating and are highly insulated. The toilets are dual flush and the showers are fitted with aerating heads to reduce water usage. The owners compost all vegetable waste and have planted 1,250 trees on the land. They also have a colony of bees.

"This is the perfect place to get away from it all. Come and lollop by the pond watching the newts or take up residence in the hide in Cwmbiga’s own wetlands and twitch to your hearts content. Walk or cycle or ride... but don't come here expecting wifi or mobile signal or to be able to pop out for a latte. It is seriously remote and gorgeously so."
