Why we've chosen Cascina Rodiani:

Cascina Rodiani follows the principals of Sustainable Tourism. A recently renovated 5 bedroom colonial home from the late 1600s, situated on a hill within the "Spina Verde" park in Como and a short distance from Lombardy's fabulous lakes has been converted to a family run bed & breakfast serving organic food.

The rustic, but refined, location of the Cascina offers three comfortable rooms with private bathrooms and an additional family suite with an entrance hall, two bedrooms and one bathroom.
Each room has independent access from either the terrace or the covered porch.  The rooms are comfortable and spacious and will easily accommodate an extra bed if required.
All rooms on the ground floor have disabled access.

The open space (once the barn) is available for events and workshops.  Self-guided cycling (mountain bike) tours around lake Como and the "Spina Verde" Park available as well as bikes to hire.

Eco credentials:

How do you reduce your draw on energy:
We have Solar Thermal for hot water and a Wood Pellet Power Plant for central heating. All our electrical appliances and light-bulbs are A-rated or better. All of the extra energy we buy is from renewable sources.

How you minimise the amount of waste you send to landfill:
We do not use or offer our guests  miniature or disposable products; we use refills and bulk dispenses in every room. Recycling bins are present on each floor and we use only biodegradable bags (no plastic). All vegetable and biodegradable waste are used for our compost and vegetable garden together with shredded paper (only European printed with no lead)

How you reduce your consumption of water:
We have a Reconstructed Wetland for waste water depuration. We use this water along with collected rainwater (60m3 in cisterns capacity) for re-usage inside and outside the Cascina (wc, irrigation...) Flow restrictions in showerheads and taps, double flush. We reduce the amount of washing with specific instructions (regarding towel usage) inside all rooms. We use only environmentally friendly cleaning products and we do not use chlorine (or derived products, bleaches) in the wash. We meter and monitor drinking and recycled water supply. We do not provide water in plastic bottles but have filtered tap water.

How much of the food your serve is sourced locally (where possible):
All our food is organic or fair trade. We produce fruit and vegetables that we use for our guest's breakfasts and appetisers (including jams and desserts). We buy from local farms and producers. We use many slow food products, research and offer old variaties of grains. 100% seasonal products offered (no overseas imports). We offer vegetarian, vegan and gluten free food.

Do you actively encourage guests to arrive on foot, by bike and by public transport?:
We offer self-guided Cycling (Mountain Bike) tours around the lake Como and Park "Spina Verde" of Como as well as the possibility to hire bikes. Reaching the Cascina Rodiani by public transport is unfortunately quite difficult and complicated due to lack of pubblic services offered by the region and city of Como (distance 11km).

Additional information:
All our furniture comes from reused, up cycled or is produced locally with our own NATURAL materials. We only use recycled toiled paper and chlorine free Eco-label paper for printing or writing. The majority of our linen is made from organic cotton, including pillows (made with organic cotton) and duvets. Cascina Rodiani was the 2012 "Premio Clima" from Legambiente Turismo (Italian Green Tourism scheme).
