Why we've chosen Cantref Coachhouse, Brecon Beacons, Wales

Cantref is a parish of scattered farms and homes in the heart of Brecon Beacons in peaceful countryside. The historic Cathedral town of Brecon is just a few miles away. There is plenty of scope for walks or cycling direct from the doorstep. Cantref Riding centre and Adventure Farm are in close proximity.

The Coach House is situated within the grounds of the owners’ grade II listed property renovated to a one storey cottage incorporating oak beams, oak floor boards in the lounge and bedroom and traditional stone floor in the kitchen area. It has one double bedroom. A comfortable sofa bed is situated in the living area if extra sleeping accommodation is required.

The cottage is warm and comfortable with under floor heating, ensuring a warm welcome for guests in the colder winter months. There is a coal ‘look-alike’ electric heater if required to create a cosy atmosphere. It is furnished to a high standard where traditional & modern has been tastefully mixed. There is a double bed, wardrobe, and clothes chests. A hairdryer is supplied. There is a large walk in shower, toilet and hand basin with shaver point.

A substantial complimentary welcome pack is on hand to get you started for a snack on arrival and for your first breakfast. Peter and Sheila have a wealth of local knowledge and also of further a field. If you need any ideas or advice they will be happy to help on the best route and they have an excellent compiled file listing things to do, places to eat, scenic routes for a car trip, cycling and walking for your perusal during your stay. This is an ideal base for exploring this stunning area whether walking, cycling, touring or just a get away from it all break.

All utilities, bed linen, towels and kitchen necessities are included in the price. The kitchen is equipped with modern oak units, full size oven, ceramic hob and small oven/grill, microwave, toasted sandwich maker, washing machine, dishwasher, fridge, toaster, kettle etc. This area is open plan to the kitchen. It is furnished with a mixture of modern/traditional, Sky TV, DVD, video and hi fi. (There is a small cross selection of Videos, DVDs, books of local interest and board games). Internet connection is available.

The cottage has its own garden set within the walled garden of the main house. It has a small Patio area that is equipped with table and chairs and barbeque for eating al fresco. Steps lead to a lawned area with small goldfish pond. There are sun lounges for relaxing.

N.B. We regret that pets are not allowed. The cottage is strictly No Smoking.

Why is this a greener holiday?

To truly minimise the environmental impact, guests are encouraged to arrive by public transport: the nearest train station is Abergavenny. From there, it’s a 40 minute taxi ride. Alternatively, a stagecoach bus goes from Abergavenny to Brecon.

Onsite the owners have taken a number of green measures to reduce the environmental impact of their tourism business, and have earned Silver from the GTBS. Some of these initiatives include use of local produce, eco-friendly cleaning products, and recycling. Additionally, the cottage is well insulated and locally sourced materials have been used wherever possible.

Review of Cantref Coach House

"This may be, strictly-speaking, a self-catering bolthole, but you’ll be well looked after by Sheila and Peter, who will make sure you’re set up with some kitchen cupboard essentials to get you started and are always on hand to offer advice on their area."
