Why we've chosen Badger Cottage, (Nr Framlingham), Suffolk, England

The cottage has a country farmhouse style kitchen and eating area, as well as a spacious bathroom with a beautiful original Victorian roll-top bath and shower over. The double doors give access to a small private courtyard surrounded by woven hazel fencing, with a table and chairs for sitting or eating outside. A small area beside the woodburner allows you to store and dry muddy or wet boots and coats – making it the perfect base for exploring the many wonderful footpaths and guided walks in the area. At night, snuggle up in the sumptuous beds up in the loft – the double bedroom has a beautiful double bed with an extra deep mattress and feather quilt. The second bedroom has twin pine beds with very comfortable mattresses and a small double sofabed tucked away as an alternative to the twin beds. The double french doors from the living room give access to a small private courtyard surrounded by woven hazel fencing topped with solar powered fairy lights, and with a decked area which has a table and chairs for sitting or eating outside.

How does Badger Cottage minimise its impact on the environment and contribute to a sense of place?

Badger Cottage has implemented a number of green initiatives to reduce its draw on natural resources, including a solar hot water system, wall and roof insulation, and double grazed windows where possible. Electricity is supplied on 100% renewable tariff.  The heating system is a wood burner with electric heaters as backup. There have two large rainwater tanks for use in the garden and water is metered. Environmental paints and reclaimed materials used during the restoration where possible. Nearly all the fixtures and fittings within the cottage are either recycled themselves or handmade from reclaimed materials. Recycling bins are provided throughout and labeled for ease of use. All toiletries and cleaning products are dispensed from bulk containers. Lots of items in the cottage have been reused, therefore reducing landfill waste. Food waste containers are provided so that compostable waste can be transported to the large compost heap. Environmentally friendly cleaning products are used throughout.

Any food on site is locally sourced, and they are linked with a local company providing a local food delivery service to guests, so that they can arrange for a local food box to be delivered in time for their stay. To encourage arrival by public transport, the owners are happy to collect guests from nearby bus and train stations.
