With a nomadic childhood, it was inevitable that I would be drawn to travel! Crossing Europe by InterRail was the preferred rite of passage when I left school, exploring a glut of cultural capitals and the beaches of Corfu and Sardinia without the need of low-cost flights. Arabic and Islamic Studies, and later the luxury of career breaks for further study, drew me to far flung places in the footsteps of the great Medieval traveller, Ibn Battuta. A Masters in sustainable tourism planning marked a transition from a corporate role to a sustainable tourism charity. I have travelled full circle to rediscover Europe by rail, and gems closer to home. I know the decisions I make about my journey, destination and choice of accommodation mean I can still travel and tread lightly. The joy of greentraveller is sharing this inspiration and exploration. Currently on maternity leave, I will be seeking out family-friendly options for greentraveller!
