Route: London to Zermatt via Paris and Lausanne
Journey time: From 10 hours

Detailed itinerary

Option 1: via Paris and Lausanne

Sample itinerary: Take any Eurostar to Paris and catch the TVG to Lausanne. From there catch the Swiss InterCity train to Visp and finally get the scenic narrow gauge train up to Zermatt. If you catch the 08:26 Eurostar from London to Paris you can get the 12:58 TVC from Gare de Lyon to Lausanne. The 17:20 InterCity train from Lausanne gets into Visp in time to get the 19:10 up the mountains to Zermatt, arriving at 20:14.
Price: From £185 return
Leg 1:

London St Pancras International to Paris Gare du Nord in the heart of Paris. Don't forget check-in time for Eurostar is at least 30 mins before departure.

First train departs 0540 (Mon-Fri), 0618 (Sat), 0819 (Sun).

Last train departs 2001 (Mon-Sat), 2031 (Sun).

Frequency of service: 18 trains Mon-Thur, 20 trains Friday, 22 on Saturday, 17 on Sunday.

Journey time: From 2 hrs 16 mins

A relatively quick train trip from Gare du Nord to Gare de Lyon. From the Eurostar platform, turn left, walk down the stairs and follow the signs for RER ligne D (which will be signposted 'direction' 'Melun', 'Malesherbes' or 'Corbeil Essonnes'). It's just 2 stops from Gare de Nord to Gare de Lyon and takes a little over 10 minutes (plus there's a short 5 minute walk to the connecting TGV departure platforms), but we recommend you leave at least 50 minutes for the entire transfer.
