Overview of Traditional Glacier Express

Meeting in London St Pancras International, your holiday will commence travelling by Eurostar to Brussels, then on to Cologne to stay for one night in the Grand City Hotel.
To Switzerland
The second day starts with a train journey through the Rhine Gorge to Switzerland. Passing lakes and meadows we will arrive at Switzerland's oldest town of Chur, to stay here for three nights at the Hotel Freieck. The next day, spend time exploring the old city and surrounding region,  through narrow alleyways, discover the 12th Century Cathedral. Why not use your Swiss Card which is included, taking 50% of rail fares, and catch the mountain railway to explore the mountainous region. For a more relaxed day, hop on the Arosa Express to the lakeside town of Arosa. If not, visit the churches and cobbled streets of Lucerne.
Day four's excursion takes us past glaciers and mountain streams on the famous historic Bernina Line and the Bernina Express. Cling to the mountainside on this journey across the Engadine Valley, through the Albula Tunnel and up to more than 7,000 feet. Enjoy lunch after your descent to Poschiavo before returning back. With its coloured houses, this pretty town is in the Italian speaking part of Switzerland.
The fifth day is arguably the highlight of the trip, travelling on the iconic Glacier Express. Admire meadows, vineyards and dense forests as you pass snow-capped peaks, traditional Swiss scenery. Travelling along the Rhine Valley, we'll make our way up to the Oberalp Pass which is the highest altitude of the route, to descend down through the Furka Base Tunnel into the Rhône Valley. Vineyards line Brig, a little hillside town, and here we will take the local railway over the great Kander Viaduct to Kandersteg. Kandersteg is a traditional unspoilt Swiss town with beautiful mountain scenery, where we will stay for three nights in Hotel Victoria. The magnificent views on this day make this whole holiday truly amazing.
The next day, day six, commences with a narrow-gorge train trip south along side the River Rhône to Visp. Join the mountain track, winding through small hamlets, through eight tunnels and across forty-two bridges to Zermatt. This car-free resort is nestled beneath the tilted peak of Matterhorn. Here you are free to spend time as you choose such as risking the ride to the summit of the Gornergrat by Funicular railway.
Around Kandersteg
Day seven is for you to explore the region with your Swiss Travel Card such as hopping on the train to Montreux to relax on a cruise on Lake Geneva, or transfer on to Spiez. The Centovalli Railway is a good way to spend the day along the shore of Lake Maggiore to Locarno, travel to Interlaken for a lake cruise or board the train to Jungfraujoch, the highest railway station in Europe.
Day eight sees the departure from Kandersteg to Lake Geneva, admire the rolling landscape and pretty scenery, to join the direct service to Paris. After a coach trip to the station, the last leg is the Eurostar back to London St Pancras International
