Knoydart has been described as the most remote part of the Scottish mainland. Accessible only by boat or on foot this beautiful peninsula maintains a strong sense of identity through the spirit of the community and those who pass through. The village of Inverie, on the shore of Loch Nevis, acts as the hub of the peninsula and the base for the Knoydart Foundation, the world-reknowned Old Forge pub and our hosts, the Knoydart Forest Trust.

You will be working alongside members of the John Muir Trust, Knoydart Forest Trust and New Caledonian Woodlands in furthering the eradication of rhododendron, while also taking part in other invasive species clearance, beach litter sweeps and potentially access work on the peninsula. Although the break is relatively early in the season there is still a risk of clegs and midges and the weather becomes more unpredictable at this time of year, so please bring suitable protective clothing and midge nets.

You will be staying in the Foundation Bunkhouse by Inverie. This is a comfortable bunkhouse with bedding and showers provided, a dining room, fully equipped kitchen and lounge with video and dvd player. It is a few minutes walk from 'Long Beach', on the shores of Loch Nevis, which also hosts the area's campsite. This will be shared with visitors from the John Muir Trust and New Caledonian Woodlands, as well as those walking through.

In staying here you are situated in some of Scotland's premiere hill-walking country and scenery, with Munros such as Ladhar Bheinn close at hand, so whether you are an avid walker or landscape photographer you are in the right place! Wildlife enthusiasts are also well catered for with deer and goats roaming the hills and the odd dolphin making an appearance in Loch Nevis, amongst other things. The Old Forge pub has a regular programme, as well as spontaneous bursts, of folk music which provides an entertaining end to the day! It also provides a tasty meal for those looking to eat out.

The break is timed to begin after the end of the Knoydart Music Festival, so if you wish to arrive early and camp during the festival please do so. Make sure you contact the campsite management well before arriving!
