Holidays in Madrid, Spain
The thing about Madrid, the thing that sets it apart from any other European capital, is that it's more a way of being than a place to visit, a way of living that feels instantly familiar, that makes you wonder why you wonder why you weren't living this way before: it's difficult to remain just a tourist here. Of course the tourist attractions are many, from the Prado Museum to the Royal, but more often than not you'll just be sipping a beer in the Plaza Mayor, listening to the rapid fire conversation while watching the diverse and multicultural passers-by. Even when doing what tourists do, such as visiting the fantastic and fascinating Puerta del Sol, you quicky find yourself just wandering through the streets, stopping off in one of the city's many secluded squares and all of a sudden you're not really a tourist, you're from Madrid for a while.
