Overview of Southern Alps Snowshoe Trek

The Queyras Regional Nature Park covers some 65,000 hectares and is home to a fantastic collection of alpine flora and fauna. In addition, it boast some truly amazing natural scenery that changes between vast mountain ranges, pine forests, tranquil lakes and traditional villages. You have to wonder, then, why the Park remains largely undiscovered, a secluded alpine playground for those with a true taste for winter adventure.

Lucky for you, this is where you'll spend this fantastic 8-day winter holiday, trekking to some of the most remote and secluded ridges and plateaux in order to follow a route that many regard as one of the best in the entire region. You'll also get to look out over other natural spaces, such as the Ecrins National Park from Fontantie plateau. Why not try your hand at cross-country skiing and even have a go at dog sledding during your free day in Saint Véran, one of Europe's highest inhabited villages. If you feel like you've had enough adventure, you could simply relax and enjoy the village's warm hospitality. Keep in mind that this is a particularly challenging trip, trekking around 16km for around 7-8 hours each day, so you'll need to be in good shape to attempt this trip.

Here's a brief overview of the itinerary:

  • Day 1: Arrive in Montbardon
  • Day 2: A looped walk of the Fontantie plateau
  • Day 3: Walk from the Fountain Rouge pass towards the Aigues Valley and Molines en Queyras
  • Day 4: An ascent of 'la gardiole de l'Alp'
  • Day 5: Starts with a trek along the Aigue Blanche stream, then a fantastic ascent of the 'Crete du Curlet'
  • Day 6: Free day
  • Day 7: A North face descent from Col du Longet followed by a walk to Molines
  • Day 8: Departure
