As coral reefs become increasingly overwhelmed by numerous threats, including the popularity of recreational scuba diving, Richard Hammond explains what scuba divers can do to lessen their impact. Tips include choosing registered dive centres commited to responsible diving practices, avoiding touching marine wildlife and taking underwater souvenirs as well as maintaining buoyancy control to avoid damaging coral by sinking and bumping into it.

By avoiding flying and embarking on a journey of slow travel, Richard Hammond was worry-free about transport connections and enjoyed a relaxing and spontaneous island hop in the Mediterrenean.  His epic two week journey included two days of trekking the rugged coastal path in the Desert des Agriates on Corsica, exploration of Bronze-Age cave village in the mountains of Sardinia and four days relaxing at a lovely agritourism outside the ancient city of Syracuse on the island of Sicily.

Overview of Sardinia Snorkelling Holiday

Snorkelling excursions in the splendid Orosei' Gulf allow us to discover some of the hidden gems along this coast line: small caves with stalactites, emerald green sea with glowing reflections, accompanied by our Padi guides who will take you exploring with masks and fins the mysteries of the Mediterranean fauna and flora. For the more adventurous we offer you a really special snorkelling experience in total contact with the magic of nature!

On this holiday you will experience the feeling of being in the water, being light, relaxed, and free to move in any direction, watching a magical sea world. Cala Gonone is a village on the East coast of Sardinia, in the Gulf of Orosei mid way between the Capes of Punta Nera (North) and Monte Santu (South).

South of Cala Gonone, the mountain scenery with typical maquis and devoid of urban settlements makes this wild coast one of the most spectacular. The Gulf of Orosei is the ideal destination to combine activity with relaxation on beautiful beaches complete with caverns & rock arches, many only accessible by foot or from the sea.

The accommodation is a self catering apartment with 2 or 3 bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen and a nice veranda where you can have your meal or just relax and read a book. In Cala Gonone, there are restaurants, bars, and also local supermarket where you can buy local food, just produced in the area. All these products are made in 10-15 km of distance: biscuits, bread, cheeses, wine, oil, sardinian pasta as ravioli and coulurgiones...
