This shorter version of our Alpilles Tour will allow you to marvel at some of Provence's best known sites.
This trip is perfect for travelers who would like to give biking a try without necessarily committing to a week-long bicycle vacation.

It is also an ideal short escape for sun-deprived city dwellers! Avignon is a mere hop away from major European cities.

Our loop will take you around the Alpilles on very quiet roads. You'll bike through some of France's prettiest villages such as Saint Rémy de Provence, Les Baux de Provence, Fontvieille, Eygalières, Maussane les Alpilles, Tarascon, and Arles.

NB: No departure (Day 1) on Sunday.

Itinerary:

Day 1 (any day except Sunday): Avignon - Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (25 km or 15 miles)
Our local representative will gice you all the necessary materials and brief you on the trip. Your short ride will lead you to Saint-Remy-de-Provence, where you will overnight.

NOTE: Our local representative can provide you with your kit and rental bikes any day of the week except Sunday. If you arrive on Saturday and spend a night in Avignon, bikes and documents will be given to you on Saturday afternoon/evening (between 3:00pm and 6:00pm).

Day 2: Saint-Rémy-de-Provence - Arles (46 km or 29 miles; 56 km or 35 miles with the extension through les Baux-de-Provence )
On easy trails or small roads, you'll be biking through gorgeous scenery at the foot of the mountain range, through fields of olive trees and vineyards--you can stop for a wine tasting. Overnight in Arles, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 3: Arles - Avignon (55 km or 35 miles; 70 km or 45 miles)
Leaving Arles behind, you'll bike through Fontvieille, where Alphonse Daudet's Windmill is located, and continue on to Tarascon and its castle--one of France's best-kept medieval fortress--and home to Souleiado, a Provencal fabric maker. Riders who wish to visit the Frigolet Abbey and Barbentane can do so by opting for the longer route that will take them through "La Montagnette" ("the small mountain" in French).
