Details of Self Catering Walking Holiday in Asturias

Green and unspoiled, Asturias is dominated by the magnificent Picos de Europa – craggy limestone mountains which shelter rare birds and animals and conceal startling blue lakes, lush valleys, tiny villages of red-roofed houses, and deep gorges. Just a stone’s throw away is the equally rugged Atlantic Coast, where picturesque fishing villages nestle in sheltered bays and the pristine beaches are blissfully quiet for most of the year.

You can discover both sides of this glorious region – including some rewarding walks for which we provide route notes – from the Casas Rurales, a charming collection of converted farm workers’ houses scattered across a large estate on the edge of the Sueve Natural Park, an area of lush green foothills between the high mountains and the sea. This is wonderful walking country and we suggest a whole range of walks for all levels which reveal an equally wide variety of landscapes. Some walks are circular and accessed with your car, while others are linear and start or end with either a taxi ride or a journey on the scenic coastal railway (pay locally in both cases).

The cottages and apartments are scattered across a large country estate with amazing mountain views, making them feel quite secluded, despite their easy access to the hills, high mountains and fertile coastal belt. There are even two Michelin-starred restaurants within a 20-minute drive!

Charmingly rustic in style, the properties have been lovingly converted in the best traditions of rural tourism from former farm workers’ houses, and retain many original features such as beams and exposed stonework.

Traveller Reviews of This Trip

A beautiful house in an outstanding location - a beautiful part of Spain with access to lovely sandy beaches. The welcome pack was excellent - better than any we have ever had before. Violeta at the office as very helpful, too. The highlight was probably sitting outside the house looking at a stunning view and listening to the sound of tinkling cowbells.
We have not used Inntravel before but we were very impressed and hope to use you again. Many thanks. Mrs Ribbons, Brighton, 24/08/2010

The welcome pack was particularly good, a most thoughtful and comprehensive selection. Violeta, the receptionist was most helpful and came to visit us twice to see all was well, which it was! The highlight was the rural peace (tinkling cowbells excepted) and wild flowers – orchids only 20m away. Mr S, Godalming, 17/06/2009
