This alpine cycling holiday takes us around the highest mountain in Western Europe, Mont Blanc. In four days we pass through three countries, taking in some of the famous Tour de France passes such as the Grand St Bernard at 2469m, Cormet de Roseland, Col des Saises, Col des Aravis, and the Col de la Columbiere. This road cycling holiday is surely a 'must do' ride for 'Sportive' riders and cycling enthusiasts.
Brief Itinerary
Day 1:
Arrive in Chamonix
Day 2:
Set out on your adventure and settle in with a climb over the Col des Montets, before descending down into Switzerland (no passport necessary!) You'll then climb to the Col de Forclaz before another descent into the Rhone Valley and Martigny. Finish the day with a final climb to Champex and one more descent into Mourg St Pierre.
Day 3:
Today you'll start off with a cycle through some wonderful countryside as you head towards the famous Grand St Bernard Monastery, perched some 2,473m above sea level. Next comes the fantastic 20-mile descent to Aosta, followed by a climb to the Colle San Carlo and then the Col du Petit St Bernard with its awesome views.
Day 4:
Leave Bourg St Maurice and head along the "Route des Grandes Alpes", leading to the open plain at Chapieux. Climb the Cormet de Roseland, descent down to the lake and then follow the banks to Beaufort. Finally comes the last ascent over the Col des Aravis (as featured in the Tour de France), and a descent into La Clusaz.
Day 5:
On the final day of the holiday you'll climb through verdant meadows as you head towards the Col de la Colombiere. Passing plenty of cafes along the way, you'll finish with a great classic swooping alpine descent to the valley and a trip along the "Mont Blanc Cycle Route" before heading back to Chamonix.
