Your Real Retreat accommodation is in the VisitScotland four-star Gold Duntrune House owned by Barrie and Olwyn Jack. Duntrune is a historic mansion dating from 1826, in eight acres of garden and woodland, five miles north of Dundee. There are sweeping panoramas over the fields to the Firth of Tay. The garden is a paradise for birds and flowers, including wild orchids, and the bee boles in the garden wall are a haven for bees.

Duntrune was owned by the Graham family until 1870; the famous Grahams in Scotland's history were John Graham of Claverhouse (Bonnie Dundee), the Jacobite commander killed at Killiecrankie in 1689 in the Wars of the Convenanters, and his kinsman, James Graham, Marquis of Montrose, who fought in the Civil War of the 1640s.

The four en-suite bedrooms (three with shower only, one with bath and shower over) have twin or super-king beds and are decorated to a high standard with modern facilities, cosy bathrobes, hospitality tray, hairdryer and specially chosen 'green' toiletries. We have also been awarded a Gold award in the Green Tourism Business Scheme, indicating our high level of commitment to operating in an eco-friendly way.

All the themed breaks – which usually last two days and two nights but can be extended – have been carefully put together by our team of professionals at The Real Retreat to ensure that they are balanced. They include both activity and relaxation, designed to reinvigorate both mind and body.

Our themed breaks are:

Refresh Body and Mind including yoga, painting and pampering
Retrain Your Frame yoga, belly dancing and pampering
Recharge Your Batteries painting, wellbeing treatments and relaxation
The Perfect Detox rejuvenate and cleanse with special juices, wellbeing treatments and yoga
Or mix and match – your choice.

Angus and Dundee provide a splendid balance between countryside, seaside and city. Dundee on the Firth of Tay is home to the RRS Discovery, the Dundee Repertory Theatre and the McManus Galleries, newly refurbished and one of the best museums and art galleries in Scotland. On board the Discovery you can discover how Scott and his team lived on their epic voyage to the Antarctic. Verdant Works exhibits how Dundee people lived and worked in the jute trade. Angus was the hub for Pictish life in the first millennium and archaeological evidence can still be found around the county. This is a gorgeous area for walking on beaches or in glens.
