How does La Lucertola minimise its impact on the environment and contribute to a sense of place?
La Lucertola is located on the slopes of Monti Pisani – an environmentally protected area of outstanding natural beauty and tranquillity. The duo of self-catering Tuscan farmhouses are completely self-sufficient and off-grid - the entire electricity supply is provided by photovoltaic solar panels fitted on the farmhouse roofs, while a natural spring provides mineral water for both the farmhouses and the swimming pool. When the weather becomes drier during the summer, rainwater is harvested to water and garden the allotments. During the colder months, both farmhouses have a wood burner and the wood used comes from the local olive trees that are cut annually. La Lucertola also recycles glass, plastic, tins and paper.
Guests are provided with free organic fruit, veg and herbs depending on the season. Summer offers up tomatoes, peaches, pears and apricots while winter offers oranges, lemon and fennel. In terms of activities, each of the cottages is provided with a map to help guests find the area’s many walking routes, with other options including horse riding in the nearby wooded nature reserve of San Rossore, exploring the wild beach of Marina di Vecchiano and bird watching from the comfort of the farmhouse or nearby Torre del Lago.

Directions from station:
There are many daily train services from Florence to Pisa (usually 1 hour 7 minutes) and hourly trains from Florence to Lucca (around 1.5 hours). Regular buses run from both Pisa and Lucca to the bottom of the hill. Then it is a 15 minute walk to the farmhouses. We can arrange to collect guests with luggage if required.
