Details of Northern Lights Active Short Break

DAY 1:

Arrive in Tromsø and transfer to your four star hotel in the centre of the city.

Enjoy exploring the city with our recommendations for places to visit and eat. In the evening try and catch your first glimpses of the Northern Lights in the dark skies.

DAY 2:

During the daytime, enjoy one of our excursions departing from the city. Choose from a menu of options including dog-sledding, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing and much more. Between November and January, it is possible to join a whale watching tour departing from Tromso's harbour.

Day 3:

You’ll have another day either at your own pace or perhaps try another excursion in the wilderness or an overnight trip to remember.

DAY 4:

Today you’ll leave Tromsø returning to the airport and taking a short internal flight to the city of Alta, a journey of just 35 minutes. Alternatively travel by bus over the Lyngen Alps arriving in Alta in the evening.

Alta is a city familiar to sightings of the Aurora Borealis. It was here in 1899 that the first permanent Northern Lights observatory was built on the mountain peak Haldde overlooking Kåfjord. You’ll transfer to the Igloo Ice Hotel in the evening staying in one of the ice rooms. You’ll have dinner at the Hotel’s restaurant before settling in for the night beneath reindeer hide and thermal sleeping bags.

Other activities including dog-sledding and snowmobiling are available at the Snow Hotel.

DAY 5:

Transfer to Alta Airport and return.

Alternatively extend your short break in Alta with a visit to a local Husky farm where you can stay for one or two nights. Here you can enjoy a full day dog-sledding with your professional musher guide. The team at Magnetic North will be pleased to advise you about all of the options available.
