Irish Sea ferry operator Norfolkline is offering 25% off standard fares for hybrid car drivers. The offer applies to day or night time sailing Liverpool (Birkenhead) - Belfast, and Liverpool (Birkenhead) - Dublin.

Diane Poole, General Manager - Passenger at Norfolkline Irish Sea, said "Norfolkline places high priority on environmental considerations in managing its business and is keen to support initiatives that promote environmental responsibility. With issues like air pollution and global warming, Hybrid Cars produce less than half of the carbon dioxide and half of the carbon monoxide produced by their non-hybrid counterparts and also have much lower fuel consumption. They are simply greener, which is why we are pleased to provide a special offer for these car owners."

Richard Vance, Centre Manager for Lexus Belfast said "I'm delighted to see Norfolkline take this initiative and support those drivers who have taken their environmental responsibility seriously by buying Hybrid vehicles.

"As it will be many, many years before we move on to mainstream Fuel Cell cars, Hybrid is without doubt the medium term technology solution - the system in our three Luxury Hybrids is unique in delivering 'better than diesel' fuel consumption, matched by the performance and refinement of a petrol engine, but with only the CO2 emissions of a family saloon - all at the same time."
