The Future of Tourism in 2023

Sustainable development charity Forum for the Future has produced four possible futures for the UK outbound travel and tourism industry in 2023.

Unveiling the scenarios at the Association of British Travel Agent's annual conference in Barcelona, Forum's vision of the future was developed with the help of more than 100 industry experts focussing on two key variables: "whether the economy, politics, technology and energy costs combine to encourage of restrict overseas travel; and whether the appeal of overseas destinations and consumers’ sensitivity to the environmental impacts of travel makes tourism more or less attractive."
