Guidebook publisher Alastair Sawday, best known for the Special Places to Stay series, has published a guide to green accommodation in Europe.

Green Europe, edited by Kate Shepherd, contains over 170 places to stay with owners who "care about the environment, conservation, food and their community".

Each of the properties has been visited by one of the Sawday's inspectors.

In his foreword the book, Alastair Sawday writes "Recent surveys on attitudes to travel show a remarkable turnaround - over 70% of us now agree, for example, that airlines should pay the environmental costs of flying. The surge in interest in all things green is palpaple, undeniable, uplifting. Green tourism awards are being designed and launched by tourism authorities all over Europe, some superb and others, admittedly, little more than 'greenwash'. It is hard to conscientious travellers to know how to make meaningful choices. I believe that Green Europe is one answer."

Green Europe follows on from the publisher's worldwide guide to Green Places to Stay, published in 2006.

GreenTraveller readers can buy a copy of Green Europe for £5.99 (rrp £11.99) plus £2.99 p&p. Visit Sawdays.co.uk/bookshop and enter the code 'GREENTRAVELLER1' when adding it to the basket. Offer ends 31 August 2009.
