To fly or not to fly
Hi,
If you are viewing this website, chances are you like traveling and you do not like polluting. Well, if that's the case (and of course it is, is it not?), maybe you will be interested in reading on.
Over the last few months, I spent some time and energies (much time and many energies, actually) building up a website that I hope will be helpful for those who, like me, are concerned about the impact of aviation on global warming.
The site is called www.idontfly.com. It lists train, ferry and bus routes across Europe. If you are thinking of going anywhere in Europe without flying, there you can find lots of information for an alternative route. Before you start swearing at me, I did not make any money out of it and I am not a travel agency, nor will I try to sell you anything.
The ideas behind my website are two and are very simple (I am myself a very simple minded person, so I couldn't have possibly had any complicate ideas).
The first one is that aviation pollutes - we all know that much.
The second is: traveling by train and ferry is much more interesting than being loaded onto a flying cargo and being delivered into your standard holiday resort.
Keep your feet on the ground if you want to rediscover how traveling was meant to be.
My www.idontfly.com is still a young creature; I am working on it, so a lot of information is missing (but plenty of stuff is on its way). Everybody is welcome to send comments and ideas, and to spread the news if they value it worthwhile.
I am hopeful that you’ll find idontfly.com easy and functional, and maybe you’ll find it useful too.
I especially hope your next holiday will involve ferry-train-bus journeys rather flights.
Thanks to Richard Hammond for giving me this space and thanks to whoever reads it.
Bye,
Andrea
