Are there any environmentally friendly car-hire firms offering fuel-efficient, small cars? jperrone

It’s early days, but some of the large car-hire companies are beginning to offer low-emission cars, albeit only at selected locations and often at higher prices than standard vehicles…

In February, Avis (avis.co.uk) introduced a natural-gas VW Tourans for hire at 15 of its city-centre outlets in Germany and 50 hybrid petrol/electric four-door vehicles at Faro, Lisbon and O Porto airports in Portugal. Its most comprehensive low emissions fleet is in Scandinavia, where it hires out the medium-sized 75 Ford Flexi-fuel and 20 Toyota Prius as well as over 400 of the large-sized ethanol-powered Saab 9-5 BioPower cars, which cost from £370 to hire for a week from Gothenburg airport.

Hertz (hertz.com) now offers a “Green Collection” of both automatic and manual cars, which you can hire from 50 selected outlets across Europe. According to Hertz, they all do 40-65mpg and meet the EU’s 2008 voluntary target of the maximum average 140g/km CO2 output.

If you want to test out an electric car in London – and steer clear of the congestion charge – you can hire a two-seater Sakura Maranello4 for £175 per week through electriccarhire.com. Also, greentomatocars.com offers private hire of Toyota Prius cars for £30 an hour.

I run a <a href="http://www.b2bmedia.com">Car wrap</a> company myself and I know there are lot's of automobile company that are focusing on the environmental friendly vehicles. If you search on the internet than you can find lot's of such car companies there. These days I have seen many people riding the electrical cars and cars that runs on natural gases which do not hampers on the environment. If I get there in London I will certainly give a try to two seater Sakura Maranello4.

Great progress

I'm really pleased that car hire companies are taking notice and making moves towards becoming more eco-friendly. I think that if companies use motor vehicles then they have a responsibility to minimize their environmental impact. Several other car rental companies not mentioned also have green measures in place including Thrifty and Easycar (http://www.easycar.com/watchyourco2/default.asp).

I think this is a good sign

I think this is a good sign that in the last few years there has been a huge increase in demand of eco-friendly cars, and i hope in the coming years more and more people will go for eco friendly vehicles.

Launch of New Avis Collection

Hi all,

I wanted to let you know that Avis, the global car-hire company, is further demonstrating its eco-credentials with the launch of the new, low emission Avis Eco Collection this December. To celebrate the launch of the new collection, and as part of its efforts to try harder for the environment, Avis will offset the emissions for every Avis Eco car rental for the whole month of December and match pound-for-pound the total amount offset by its customers in the UK across the entire fleet!

Best wishes,
Emily

Green Car Hire - Rental is becoming more popular at Heathrow

It seems now some of the larger car rental companies are certainly looking at expanding into the Green Car rental industry, which can only mean good news for the world? We recently hired a Citroen C1 with 108 g/km 4.6 (61.4) mpg which was great, it met my requirements. We booked through Car Hire UK ( www.car-hire-uk.com ) which offer three vehicles groups in its Green Car Rental range. It just shows that it wont be long nearly all cars are green at car rental companies, as more and more of us decide to book up the greener option. there is a useful link for green car rental information found below and discussion board for information about hiring green cars, and which companies offer the best value for money, and most range of green rental vehicles. Car Rental at Heathrow airport seems to be offering the most range of green rental vehicles with Gatwick Airport following a close second.

Autoweb have one of the most comprehensive car contract hire websites in the UK.

Eco Friendly does anyone care?

Do people really care if we the vehicle we hire is friendly to the environment, after all take a good look on the M25 and I bet you will spot more sporty or 4×4 trucks than the eco ones that are suppose to be good to the environment, im not so sure if people really are interested in saving the environment? After all how many of us actually reading this are driving a bad bad car in respect of CO;s? how many of us we actually take today, and actually go out and change the way they see things, go out and get that greener car or better get a bicycle? People power is the answer and can really make this happen, but you got to do this yourself. I looked at selling my vehicle, and actually found a great company offering car hire through out the UK, (CarHireUK) www.car-hire-uk.com as they are better know offer a great range of green vehicles, not actually green but CO2 better cars, without many comprimises, no silly prices, just standard rates and a car i can feel good about driving and not worrying about damage to the environment or my wallet, like it should be, after all we shouldnt have to pay more just to be greener! So my advise is to ditch the car all together, and only hire one when you really really need it, and would certainly recommend this company, as its rewarding to see companies that care about the future www.car-hire-uk.com

Interesting read, thanks for

Interesting read, thanks for helping keep me busy at work ;)

Good to see car rental companies giving us "Green/Eco" options

Its good to see car rental companies offering customers some choice. With fuel prices increasing and the weak economic outlook “Green” cars actually make really good sense for companies and private individuals on a budget. They offer amazing mpg therefore saving you a fortune in fuel with the added bonus of lowering your carbon foot print. I found a dedicated Eco friendly car rental company called Green Motion, www.greenmotion.co.uk . Its whole fleet of cars are all low CO2 vehicles plus a good choice of Hybrid vehicles to match all budgets and requirements. Of course it’s better for us all to walk or cycle everywhere, think of the calories you would burn but in reality this is not always an option, I agree with above when you need a car just hire from a responsible car rental company.
