Duration: Book by the hour or by the week

Nestled in the foothills of the Slieve Aughty Mountains, treks bring you into the forest, river and country lanes of the west, a wild region known for bogs and rocky terrain. Our strong horses were raised on this ground and think nothing of fording a rocky stream, plodding through a muddy path or jumping a stone wall. Dominated by cattle and sheep farms, the area is a walk back in time, where you still see donkey carts bringing the turf from the bogs and the neighbours meet at the local pub over a pint after mass on Sunday.

Our horses and ponies have a long history with the centre as well and are suitable for beginners and experienced riders as well as children and adults. Our guides grew up in the area and know all the secret wonders of the forest, as well as the history of the ruins you might come across.

Horse riding at the centre is possible for just an hour if your schedule is tight and you are just passing by, or you can book a riding holiday by the week. Short breaks are also possible, and we specialise in serving families with diverse interests and needs.

Slieve Aughty Centre is an eco-friendly centre, family owned and operated since 1986. We have over 25 horses and ponies, large all weather sand arena, cross country course, toilet and shower facilities, Bord Failte approved accommodation, and small conference centre and restaurant. We are AIRE (Association of Irish Riding Establishments) and BHS (British Horse Society) approved.
