When you imagine the Italian countryside, chances are you automatically think of Tuscany. The combination of verdant meadows, rolling hills and quaint hilltop towns, olive groves and vineyards has made Tuscany one of the most sought-after holiday destinations in Europe. This 6-day walking holiday begins in the medieval town of Montepulciano, from which you'll venture to the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site of Pienza, which boasts a stunning Duomo that is one of the earliest examples of a Renaissance cathedral. You'll then continue through the Italian hills visiting countless towns and monasteries before reaching Siena.
You'll also get to pass through the famous Brunello wine region and complete a relatively tough trek through Bagno Vignoni that brings you to St Antimo, a secluded abbey hidden in a beautiful pastoral landscape. Undoubtedly, the wealth of Tuscan food and wine on offer during this holiday is another huge draw, as is the luxurious selection of accommodations you'll get to bed down in along the way. The trip itself is graded as Easy to Moderate, which means that it is a great introductory walk for anyone who wants to explore the region but doesn't have a lot of trekking experience.
