Hadrian's Cycleway is undoubtedly one of the most varied and enjoyable of Britain's famous cycle trails, following the length of Hadrian's Wall World Heritage Site and offering up everything from exquisite coastal paths to Roman forts and museums. This 4 day cycling holiday gives you the chance to discover the magnificent countryside of Northumberland, with its fascinating Roman History, expansive coastal views, quiet roads and traffic free cycle paths. The trip begins in Bowness-on-Solway, an Area of Outstanding Beauty on the Solway Firth. You'll then head straight through the heart of Hadrian's Wall Country before reaching Tynemouth along the East Coast.
Other highlights include a quick visit to the Once Brewed brewery, where you can sample a selection of locally-brewed ales, as well as the climb up to Crindledykes, the highest point of the entire route and a vantage point rewarding you with some truly fantastic views. All along the route the inns and guesthouses have been hand picked to provide you with a little well-deserved luxury in the evenings. The cycleway can be enjoyed in either direction, though people typically cycle it west to east, and is made up of country lanes and quiet roads, with a few riverside paths.
