Under two hours away from London by train, a long weekend in Paris is the ultimate green city break. Culture vultures could easily spend a month exploring the hundreds of galleries and museums dotted throughout the city and for foodies Paris has everything from the local bistro to some of the finest restaurants in the world.

Most visitors tend to head to the big names when it comes to art; the Louvre and the Musee D’orsay, but there are heaps of quirky, smaller galleries to explore too. Head to La Maison Rouge where the vast industrial space is worth a visit in itself or Passege de Retz in the Marais to weave through a labyrinth of exhibition spaces.

Once you tire of art jump on a Velib and cycle along the Seine, which is especially pleasant on a Sunday when roads are closed for leisure pursuits. Stroll up to Montmartre through cobbled streets, past pop-up flea markets, rustic bars and quaint patisseries until you arrive at the mystical-looking Sacre Coeur.
