Holidays in Burgundy, France
Burgundy provides everything you need to experience the best of France; magnificent chateaus, ancient churches, family-run vineyards and excellent restaurants. Dijon is the starting point for most holidays in the region and is well worth a visit if you have a couple of days to spare. The city is home to dramatic squares and an extensive market, which is the perfect way to discover the regional food specialties.
Further afield, Burgundy is best known for tours of either vineyards or chateaux, or you can do both at the same time. The unspoilt countryside, refreshing rivers and quiet roads make this an excellent place to do a group cycling holiday, weaving between vineyards and medieval towns. There is an extensive canal network in the region for water-based holidays and for those interested in the industrial history of France. If you are more interested in culture then the Abbey of Cluny is a must, as are many other Romanesque churches in the region. Saone-et-Loire is home to the Tourist Chateaux Route, which takes you past some of the most impressive in the country, including Chateau Sully.
