Details of Via Ferrata Trip
For those of you who have already experienced our Via Ferrata holidays or who are confident scramblers in high altitude terrain, we are now offering a new area to discover in the Dolomites. The Val di Comelico, in the northeast corner of the Dolomites, has a strong Ladin community so even though the region is part of Italy, around 91% of the population still speak the officially recognized Ladin language.
Based in the charming village of Santo Stefano di Cadore, our family run hotel is the ideal place to come back to at the end of an activity-packed day. The origin of the via ferrata stems from the First World War, when they were built with a defensive purpose by the Austro-Hungarian armies. This itinerary also takes us on some new and challenging routes such as the Ferrata dei Cinquanta del Clap, named after the group of local climbers who set it up in 1991 - 92. We explore these extensive 'iron-ways', over high-level bridges and across ridges which give us the thrill of reaching terrain that is usually the domain of expert climbers only.
