Now in it's fifth year this popular holiday visits Eyam Moor, located in the heart of the Derbyshire Peak District, which rises some 800 feet above sea level with stunning views of the Derwent valley and famous for its many Bronze Age remains and monuments. Below the moor is the village of Eyam where in 1665 many of the villagers imposed a self regulated quarantine to stop the spread of the plague.
Help us clear a narrow clay lined gulley (only 30cm deep!) of invasive vegetation including heather and bracken to aid the flow of freshwater to a local hamlet. This gulley was cut by hand many years ago and snakes from springs high up on the moor to a local hamlet which relies on the flow of water as they are not connected to the mains. The task will involve walking alongside the gulley and cutting the vegetation where required using shears and loppers.
We will be staying at Bushey Heath Farm this year, a smallholding run in an 'environmentally sensitive way'. We will have use of two superbly converted and renovated barns providing terrific accommodation. The two barns are adjacent to each other and both provide open plan kitchen/ diner/ living areas, ground floor WCs, first floor shower rooms/ WCs. One barn sleeps eight in two bedrooms and the other sleeps six in one bedroom in bunk beds. We will cook and eat together in the larger of the two barns.
Enjoy your leisure time exploring local towns and villages including Tideswell and the spa town of Buxton (10 miles approx.), the plague village of Eyam has an interesting heritage walk and Chatsworth House and park is approximately 10 miles away. There are numerous country pubs within a few minutes drive.
