Holidays in Yorkshire, England

Yorkshire’s wild landscape, bustling seaside resorts and regal market towns will each take you back in time in their own unique way. To the East of the region Pickering makes an excellent base to walk from, whilst Whitby and Scarborough are worth a visit for good old-fashioned seaside fun. Robin Hood Bay is a wilder part of the coast, where cottages tumble down into an unforgiving sea. The North York Moors National Park contains some of the most remote countryside in the UK. The vast heather-drenched moors come alive in late summer, when the landscape turns pink and purple. Dry-stone walls have stood still for hundreds of years and sheep farmers stay true to their ancestors’ ways and methods.

Further West the rather grand town of Richmond is worth a visit, sandwiched between the two National Parks and home to an interesting castle. The Yorkshire Dales are not as wild as the Moors but still offer fantastically rugged walking opportunities. If you like a walk to involve pretty villages and country pubs then the Dales might be the better option. Further south, York is a city worthy of a day or two and with the new East Coast Line, is very well connected with the rest of the country.
