Green Holidays in Sussex, England

Sussex is only an hour from London but blessed with fresh sea air and rolling green hills. In 2011 the South Downs became the latest addition to England’s National Parks, and rightfully so. Over 1600 square kilometers of chalky hills sweep up and over wooded valleys down to vast flood plains and finally to sea where soft pebble beaches are dotted with towering white cliffs. The South Downs Way makes all this incredibly easy to take in, be it by mountain bike, horse or foot.

The Downs are littered with cultural highlights too; explore the fairytale-like castle in Arundel, the grand Cathedral in Chichester, the markets of Lewes or Brighton’s hippy North Lanes. The region is also home to some stunning coastal areas. The villages of Bosham and Itchnor overlook a quaint tidal estuary, in stark contrast to Beachy Head in the East where towering white cliffs look over the crashing waves of The Channel.
