Green Holidays in Shropshire, England
Shropshire sits between Birmingham and Wales, in a surprisingly rural pocket of England with some fascinating history. Bordering Wales, the region has a defensive history, which is still evident today through beautiful ruins of Norman castles and forts. Visit the castles at Ludlow and Shrewsbury or head to Merton Corbet to get a sense of this dramatic history. The largest town in the region is Shrewsbury, which is well worth a visit for its cobbled, medieval streets and wealth of events throughout the year. The Shrewsbury Carnival kicks off the summer in June, followed by storytelling at Wenlock Edge in July, the Shrewsbury Folk Festival takes place August bank holiday and summer winds down with a Street Theatre festival in September.
Besides from culture, Shropshire has some beautiful countryside. The varied landscape makes this a great place for an activity or wildlife holiday.
