Details of Urban Adventure in London: War Rooms and Tea Rooms
Starting out from the heart of the West End, we head off along Regent Street, leaving the bright lights & gaze of Eros at Piccadilly Circus behind as we enter elegant Mayfair. We'll walk down exclusive Jermyn street, famous for its gentlemen’s tailoring retailers, and we'll also get to see where the Queen buys her cheese from, passing nightclubs frequented by the rich and famous glitterati en route. We'll stroll down palatial Victorian shopping arcades, we emerge by Hatchards (London's oldest bookshop) and cross the road to Fortnum & Mason food emporium. This much-celebrated treasure trove of gourmet delights has held Royal warrants for over 150 years, the staff still wear tailcoats, and deliveries are made by horse and carriage!
We'll head up to the Royal Academy (home of the famous Summer Exhibition), before we return to the tranquility of Jermyn street, then wander a short distance to the famous Ritz Hotel. See Lady Diana’s favourite restaurant, before taking a black cab to Buckingham Palace. We may have the luck to coincide with the famous Changing of the Guards, before we explore beautiful St James' Park, full of wildlife and boasting tempting vistas of the London Eye & Palaces through the trees. Coming out at the Horse Guards Parade, we'll pass the Cenotaph & Downing Street: just off Whitehall, you can glimpse the famous frontdoor of No.10, as well as discovering where Churchill planned his war strategy with the Cabinet.
Now we'll head on towards Westminster Abbey, escaping into the quiet squares & historic back streets of Westminster, before emerging at the glorious Houses of Parliament. The tour comes to a close at the Jewel Tower, where you have the opportunity to buy tickets for Parliament, Westminster Abbey, or simply relax with a coffee at the end of a wonderful morning exploring London.
