Details of Urban Adventure in Cappadocia: Underground Cappadocia
We'll collect you from your hotel and then head for Kaymaklı Underground City, one of Cappadocia's most extensive and interesting underground cities. Then continue on to the Soganlı Valley, an Open Air Park in a beautiful, untouched natural setting close to a typical Cappadocian village that has preserved its traditional way of life alongside its cave churches and monasteries. Cappadocia's celebrated handmade dolls are made in Soganli village, and you can visit a small market where local women sell their dolls and various other handcrafts.
We'll enjoy a local lunch in Soganli before continuing to Keşlik Cave Monastery, an early christian cave complex found in a local's garden and the owner guides visitors around the monastery, as well as providing tea and locally grown fruits. We'll also visit the Medrese (Theological School), which originates from Seljuk Turks in Taşkinpasa and is now a library and has been a part of the town since the 14th century.
During the tour, guests will get the opportunity to go to a local handicraft centre where they will witness local woman weaving carpets according to the traditional methods that are peculiar to the region. As a government-sponsored centre, the locals are able to learn and practice an art form that has been slowly disappearing in the face of modernity and new practices. Guests are encouraged to engage with the locals who work here and thus experience their genuine warmth and Cappadocian hospitality.
The tour ends with a visit to Sinasos, which is an old Greek town home to wonderful old Greek houses, that are stunning examples of later Greek settlements and architecture.
