Details of Urban Adventure in London: Trafalgar Square to Piccadilly
We begin in the heart of London at Trafalgar Square, where we'll learn about the history of Nelson’s Column and the controversial 4th Plinth - you may be tempted to feed the pigeons but it's now illegal! Next we'll walk past the English National Opera, squeezing down a street that's only 15 inches wide! Nearby is the Actor’s Church, where the Great Plague’s first victim is buried alongside memorials to Charlie Chaplin & Noel Coward. Afterwards, we'll wander round Covent Garden Piazza and maybe relax with a cappuccino on the terrace at the Royal Opera House.
Gaze at the Bridge of Aspiration before exploring the bustling backstreets of Covent Garden, and browsing the shops and eateries at bohemian Neal’s Yard. Pay a visit to an umbrella shop that is over 175 years old, and have a giggle in the world’s only Cartoon Museum.
Head to the wonderful British Museum, where you'll learn the history of the Rosetta stone & Parthenon Marbles, then jump on a bus, passing through Denmark St where both Jimi Hendrix & the Beatles recorded, and pass the wonderful, independent Foyle’s bookshop, which with over 50km of shelf space used to be the world's largest bookshop. From here, we'll head to Old Compton Street, Soho, with its vibrant café culture, and find out about the history of one of London’s most famous, liberal & diverse neighbourhoods.
